Common problems
Signs Your Dryer Vent Needs Cleaning
-
Clothes still damp
What it means: When the vent is partly blocked, hot wet air cannot leave the drum, so a normal load needs a second or third cycle.
-
Dryer very hot to touch
What it means: Trapped heat makes the top and sides of the cabinet hot. The dryer's safety parts then work much harder than they should.
-
Burning smell
What it means: Lint is very easy to burn. A hot smell during a cycle is a reason to stop using the dryer until the vent is checked.
-
Flap does not open outside
What it means: If the outside cover barely moves while the dryer runs, air is not getting through. Lint, a nest or a crushed duct is usually the cause.
-
Lint around the outside vent
What it means: Lint collecting around the cover outside, or in the laundry room behind the dryer, shows the duct is full or has come apart.
-
Long vent run
What it means: Dryers vented through a long duct, many bends or the roof clog faster, because lint settles wherever the air slows down.
What is included
What a Vent Cleaning Covers
We clean the whole path the air takes, because a clear lint screen does not help if the duct behind it is packed.
- The lint trap housing inside the dryer
- The transition duct behind the dryer
- The full vent run through walls, floors or the attic
- Roof and outside wall vent covers
- Gas and electric dryers
- Stacked laundry centers and closet installs
Our process
How a Vent Cleaning Visit Works
-
Before the visit
We ask where the dryer is, whether it is gas or electric, and where the vent comes out, so we bring the right brushes and tools.
-
Checking the airflow
We pull the dryer out, look at the transition duct and check how much air reaches the outside cover before we start.
-
Cleaning the full run
We brush and blow out the duct from the dryer to the outside, clear the lint housing and the cover, and replace a crushed transition duct if you approve.
-
Proving the difference
We put the dryer back, run it, and check that the outside flap opens and air flows well. You see the lint we removed.
Dryer Vent Cleaning Across Houston
Houston humidity means many homes run the dryer every day, so lint builds up quickly. A lot of houses in the area vent the dryer through the attic or the roof, which are long runs with bends where lint settles. Birds and wasps also like warm outside vent covers. A yearly check catches these before they turn into a slow dryer or a hot one.

Questions
Dryer Vent Cleaning Questions
How often should a dryer vent be cleaned?
Once a year suits most homes. A large family, a long vent run or a roof vent may need it more often.
Is a clean lint screen enough?
No. The screen catches most lint, but some always passes into the duct. Over months it builds up where you cannot see it.
Can a blocked vent damage my dryer?
It can. Trapped heat wears out heating parts and safety parts faster. If your dryer has already stopped heating, our dryer repair page explains what we check.
Do you clean vents that go through the roof?
Tell us where your vent comes out when you book. We will tell you how we reach it and what the visit involves.

I am very pleased with this company’s performance and their tech, Isa, was very kind and respectful. He was knowledgeable and very quick to get started and courteous with his work. He cleaned up everything after, I couldn’t even tell that he moved the washer. The machine is fixed and working perfectly. Thank you so much!

Taghi was so very helpful to my family! Our washing machine was full of water and I tried everything I could think of, but I could not get the water to drain. Taghi was at my house in less than two hours. He found the problem right away, made the repairs, and cleaned everything up. All of this was on a Saturday! I am so very thankful! I promptly put Optimal Appliance Repair’s number in my phone for my next appliance emergency!
