Smell gas? Leave first, then call
If you smell gas near the dryer, leave the area at once and do not touch light switches or use any flame. Call your gas utility or 911 from outside, and call us for the repair once the home has been declared safe.
Common problems
Dryer Problems We Fix
-
No heat
Likely cause: In an electric dryer, a burned-out heating element or a blown thermal fuse is often the cause. In a gas dryer, the igniter or the gas valve coils usually fail first.
-
Takes too long
Likely cause: Slow drying is most often an airflow problem. Lint packed in the vent hose or the duct to the outside keeps damp air inside the drum.
-
Drum will not turn
Likely cause: You may hear the motor hum while the drum sits still. That usually means a broken drive belt or a seized idler pulley.
-
Squeals or thumps
Likely cause: A high squeal can come from worn drum rollers or a dry idler pulley. A steady thump often means a roller has a flat spot or the drum glides are worn.
-
Will not start
Likely cause: A failed door switch, start switch or thermal fuse can keep the dryer dead. On electric models, one tripped leg of the breaker can also stop it.
-
Gets too hot
Likely cause: Clothes that come out very hot, or a dryer that shuts off early, can point to a blocked vent or a cycling thermostat that no longer controls the heat.

Our process
How a Dryer Repair Visit Works
-
A few questions first
We ask whether the dryer is gas or electric, whether the drum turns, and when the lint screen and vent were last cleaned.
-
Heat and airflow tests
On site, the technician checks the heat source, the fuses and thermostats, and how much air is moving out through the vent.
-
Cost before any work
You are told what failed and what the repair costs. The choice to go ahead is yours, and no part goes in until you agree.
-
Repair and timed run
With the new part fitted, we run a heated cycle and check the exhaust temperature. On gas models we also watch the burner light and cycle.
Dryer Repair Across Houston
Humid Gulf Coast air holds a lot of moisture, so a dryer here already has more work to do than one in a dry climate. Damp lint also sticks to the inside of the vent duct and builds up faster. In many local homes the vent run is long, going up through the attic to the roof, which makes blockage more likely. A dryer in a hot garage can trip its safety thermostat on a summer afternoon even when nothing is broken.

Questions
Dryer Repair Questions
Is it safe to keep running a dryer that takes too long?
It is better not to. Long drying times usually mean poor airflow, and trapped lint and heat are a fire risk. Clean the lint screen and stop using the dryer until it is checked.
How do I know if my dryer is gas or electric?
Look behind it. A gas dryer has a regular wall plug and a flexible gas line, while an electric dryer has one thick cord with a large plug.
The dryer runs but my clothes stay damp. Is the dryer broken?
Not always. A clogged vent can cause this even when every part in the dryer works. We check both the dryer and the airflow so we fix the real cause.
What should I do before the technician arrives?
Empty the drum and clean the lint screen. Clear some space around the dryer so it can be pulled out from the wall.

I am very pleased with this company’s performance and their tech, Isa, was very kind and respectful. He was knowledgeable and very quick to get started and courteous with his work. He cleaned up everything after, I couldn’t even tell that he moved the washer. The machine is fixed and working perfectly. Thank you so much!

Taghi was so very helpful to my family! Our washing machine was full of water and I tried everything I could think of, but I could not get the water to drain. Taghi was at my house in less than two hours. He found the problem right away, made the repairs, and cleaned everything up. All of this was on a Saturday! I am so very thankful! I promptly put Optimal Appliance Repair’s number in my phone for my next appliance emergency!
