Common problems

Oven Problems We Fix

  • Oven will not heat

Likely cause: In an electric oven, the bake element can burn through and stop glowing. In a gas oven, a weak igniter is often to blame, since it may glow but never open the gas valve.

  • Wrong temperature

Likely cause: Food that burns or comes out raw usually points to a temperature sensor that has drifted. Sometimes the control needs to be recalibrated instead.

  • Uneven baking

Likely cause: A dead convection fan or a failed broil element can leave one side of the tray pale. A worn door gasket lets heat escape and can cause the same result.

  • Door will not open

Likely cause: After a self-clean cycle the door lock motor can stick in the locked position. High heat from self-cleaning can also blow a thermal fuse.

  • Error code on display

Likely cause: Codes often relate to the temperature sensor, the door lock or the control board. A code that comes back after you reset the breaker usually means a part has failed.

  • Upper or lower oven dead

Likely cause: In a double oven, each cavity has its own elements, sensor and relays. One side can quit while the other keeps working, often because of a relay on the control board.

Our process

How a Oven Repair Visit Works

  1. Share the details

Tell us whether the oven is gas or electric, single or double, and any code on the display. If the model number is visible on the door frame, that helps too.

  2. Test the heat circuit

The technician checks the elements or igniter, the temperature sensor, the door lock and the control, and measures the real oven temperature.

  3. A clear cost, then you choose

We show you what failed and give you the repair cost up front. Work begins only after you approve it.

  4. Repair and bake test

After the repair, the oven is heated to a set temperature and checked with a separate thermometer. We make sure the door locks and unlocks as it should.

Oven Repair Across Houston

In a hot climate, a wall oven adds a lot of heat to a kitchen that the air conditioner is already working to cool. Many people here use the self-clean cycle less often for that reason, then run it right before a holiday, which is when door locks and fuses tend to fail. Summer thunderstorms bring power surges and flickers, and electronic oven controls are sensitive to them. A dead display after a storm is a common call.

Questions

Oven Repair Questions

My oven clock is blank after a storm. What can I check?

Look at the breaker panel and reset the oven breaker if it has tripped. If the display stays blank with the breaker on, the control board or a fuse inside may be damaged and needs a technician.

Is it normal for a gas oven to take a long time to light?

A short delay is normal. A long wait, or a smell of gas before it lights, usually means the igniter is getting weak. Stop using the oven and have it looked at.

Do you repair ranges and cooktops on this same visit?

Yes, we work on them too, though they are covered on their own pages. Mention every appliance that needs attention when you call so the visit is planned for all of them.

Can I use the oven if the door gasket is torn?

It will still heat, but it loses heat through the gap, so baking is uneven and the cabinet around it gets hotter. It is worth having the gasket replaced soon.
